Briefs: Show nets cash for charity

Mundelein High School's annual variety show raised more than $2,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, officials announced Monday. The event, held Friday, showcased 18 student acts. First-place winners Paolo Apuli and Tim Apuli won $100 for a guitar-and-vocal duet. The event was presented by the school's student leadership organization.

Fox Lake Library meeting

Fox Lake Library officials will meet today at 7:30 p.m. to approve construction of the new Fox Lake Public Library planned at 255 E. Grand Ave. Financial planning, architecture and construction permits are all scheduled to be discussed by library trustees. The public is invited to attend the meeting. Cole to be challenged

Republican state Rep. Sandy Cole will face a Democratic challenger in the Nov. 4 general election. Gurnee resident Terry Hall on Monday filed to represent the Democratic Party in the race for the 62nd state House seat. Hall is a certified public accountant and a member of the Woodland Elementary District 50 board. Cole, of Grayslake, was elected to her first term two years ago.

St. Ignatius to install rector

St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church will install the Rev. Timothy J. Squier as rector at 3 p.m. Saturday. Bishop Jeffrey D. Lee will preside. Squier received his master's of divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis in 1996. He continued his education and earned a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Briar Cliff University in Iowa in 2003. He is currently completing his doctoral degree. For the past two years, Squire was the assisting priest at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Evanston.

Playing to raise money

The Chicago Kickers Soccer Club will reunite with their Italian friends later this month during a friendly soccer game in Lake Villa. Last summer, the boys raised their own funds and toured Europe, striking up a friendship with the Italian Team AC Mantova. AC Mantova will begin its North American tour this month and will play the Chicago Kickers on April 27 on the grounds of the American Aid Society in Lake Villa.
