Briefs: New principal lined up
An Addison educator who also has taught in Elgin and Carpentersville is on tap to become principal at Richmond Elementary School in St. Charles, District 303 officials announced Friday. The school board is expected to approve the hiring of Guillermo Heredia on April 14. He would start July 1. Prior to coming to St. Charles, Heredia spent five years as an elementary school principal and three years as an assistant principal for Addison Elementary District 4. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Toccoa Falls College, Ga., and Aurora University, respectively, and previously taught elementary and high school classes in Elgin Area School District U-46 and District 300 in Carpentersville.
Lincoln fundraiser today
Lincoln Elementary School in St. Charles will have its 15th annual clothing and toy resale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the school, 211 S. Sixth Ave. Sale items include adult and children's clothing, toys, books, videos and baby equipment. There also will be a bake sale. Proceeds benefit the Parent-Teacher Organization.
Aurora seeks a marshal
Aurora's Fourth of July Parade Board is accepting nominations for the grand marshal of the Independence Day Parade, which will be at 10 a.m. July 4. The nomination deadline is 5 p.m., May 2. Selection is based on the nominee's contributions to the quality of life in the city, through civic and/or social services, humanitarianism or through personal achievements. Nominees can be current or longtime past residents of the city. Alliance seeks donations
The Metropolitan Alliance of Police and its St. Charles chapter are preparing for their annual telephone fundraising drive. St. Charles residents likely will be solicited for donations in coming weeks. Donations go to the organization, which serves as the officers' union in collective bargaining, legal matters, insurance and benefits, officials said. Call (630) 759-4925 for details.
Law scholarships available
The Kane County Bar Association is accepting applications for its annual law school scholarships through May 1. Two $1,000 scholarships are given in a typical year. Applicants must live in Kane County, or have a parent who resides in the county, and attend law school in the 2008-09 school year. Applications are available online at www.kanecountybar.org.
Golf event to aid homeless
Golfers can help the homeless in the Chip-In For Hesed House charity golf outing April 19 at Fox Bend Golf Club, 3516 Route 34, Oswego. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The outing is sponsored by students at Aurora University on behalf of the homeless shelter.
