The briefs: Speeders beware
Speeders beware
Schaumburg police will conduct a special speed-limit enforcement campaign from April 1 to Sept. 30, thanks to an IDOT grant. Extra officers working overtime -- so as not to interfere with normal policing levels and operations -- will be assigned to areas identified as high-crash stretches: Golf Road between Salem Drive and Plum Grove Road, and Higgins Road between Plum Grove and East Frontage roads. Though the focus will be on speeders, police say they'll take a "zero-tolerance approach" to all traffic violations observed during the enforcement periods, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. During last year's special enforcement in the same locations, police issued 1,014 speeding tickets.
Former Elk Grove exec sued
The U.S. Labor Department is suing a former vice president of an Elk Grove Village business, accusing her of making an improper $30,000 loan to the company for which she worked. The department said Catherine Dussias, former vice president of Eagle International Ltd., made the loan to herself in order to fund Eagle's corporate operations, even though the company's profit-sharing plan didn't allow such loans and is a violation of the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act. The government said she also failed to terminate the plan after the company stopped operating in 2003. Federal officials want to recover all assets owed to the profit-sharing plan plus interest. They also want to bar Dussias from serving as a fiduciary to any similar plan.
