BG's Mocchi twins named all-tourney
Senior D'Frantz Smart of state champion Whitney Young and freshman Ariel Massengale of runner-up Bolingbrook were unanimous choices to the Class 4A girls basketball all-state tournament team.
With the change to four classes in IHSA basketball, only one all-tournament team of five players was chosen for each class.
Smart and Massengale were joined on the team by Young junior Porsha Harris and Buffalo Grove senior twins Maggie and Allison Mocchi.
The 5-foot Smart scored 23 points, had 7 steals and dished out 5 assists in leading Young to its first state championship in girls basketball with a 54-45 win over Bolingbrook on Saturday night.
Young was playing in its first championship game, having finished third at state in 2005 and '06.
Massengale helped lead Bolingbrook to a second-straight runner-up finish by leading the tournament in scoring with 40 points.
Young's Harris had 21 points and 19 rebounds in the two state tournament games.
The Mocchi twins, who will play at Northwestern next year, led Buffalo Grove to a third-place finish with a 66-50 win over Chicago Marist on Saturday.
Maggie Mocchi had 13 points and tournament highs in assists (12) and blocked shots (5) for the Bison.
Allison Mocchi had 23 points, 17 rebounds and 6 steals in the two games at Redbird Arena.
Class 3A
Junior Adrienne GodBold from state champion Chicago Marshall and junior Suporia Dickens of runner-up Freeport were unanimous choices to the Class 3A all-state tournament team.

GodBold and Dickens were joined on the team by Lombard Montini sophomore Michala Johnson, Quincy Notre Dame sophomore Karlee Gengenbacher, and Marshall senior Sarah Rogers.
GodBold scored 38 points and shot 71 percent in leading Marshall to its record eighth state championship.
The Commandos defeated Freeport 58-47 Saturday to win the first Class 3A title in IHSA history. Her teammate on the all-tournament team, Rogers, scored 33 points and had 22 rebounds and 8 steals in the two games.
Dickens scored 30 points and had 17 rebounds in leading Freeport to its first appearance in a championship game.
The 6-foot-3 Johnson led Montini to a third-place finish by scoring 32 points and grabbing a tournament-high 27 rebounds. She also blocked 6 shots. Montini defeated Quincy Notre Dame 50-35 in the third-place game.
Gengenbacher tied GodBold for the tournament scoring lead with 38 points. She shot 74 percent in the tournament.
