• Holly Pope, daughter of Robert and Cindy Pope of Hoffman Estates, was named to the dean's list for the 2007 spring semester at Central College, Pella, Iowa, for achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average.

• Jeremy Hommowun, son of Jo Ellen and Chris Hommowun and a 2007 graduate of Hoffman Estates High School, was accepted into the College of Education at Illinois College, Jacksonville, where he plans to major in elementary education, with a minor in music. He received the Jonathan Baldwin Turner Academic scholarship as well as a Vocal Music Talent Scholarship from Illinois College. While at Hoffman Estates High School Hommowun was a Presidential Scholar, Illinois State Scholar, had perfect attendance for four years, and received a Peers & Leaders Leadership Award and Music Department Award. He was a also member of the District 211 Honors Choir and Band, Outstanding Musician-Choir, received the Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence and was a member of the National Honor Society.

• Amy L. Stevenson of Hoffman Estates graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., at the May 12, 2007 spring commencement ceremonies.

• Emilie G. Williams of Schaumburg graduated cum laude with a juris doctor degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., at the May 12, 2007 spring commencement ceremonies.

• Tanya Marie Horvath of Schaumburg graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science from Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., at the May 5, 2007 graduation ceremonies. To receive cum laude honors, she achieved a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.74 on a 4.0 scale.

• Nicholas Alexander Yaghmour, son of Medhat and Mona Yaghmour, Schaumburg, was one of 200 top students recognized by the University of Kansas, Lawrence, at the May 20, 2007 commencement. He is a Hoffman Estates High School graduate who was recognized as a National Merit Scholar and the recipient of a four-year scholarship for tuition (15 credit hours each semester), campus fees and a housing stipend, renewable for four years.

• Tanya Marie Horvath of Schaumburg, a student majoring in political science at Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo. was named to the spring 2007 President's List for earning at least 12 undergraduate semester hours of credit with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

• Holly Lynn Sturek of Hoffman Estates, a student majoring in psychology, pre-education/special education at Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., was named to the Spring 2007 Vice President for Academic Affairs' List. To qualify, an undergraduate student must attain a 3.50 to 3.99 grade point average.

• Shannon M. Mortimer, daughter of James Mortimer of Hoffman Estates, graduated May 20, 2007 with a bachelor's degree in history and journalism from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Mortimer is a graduate of Fremd High School in Palatine.

• Peter Sachs Barlow, son of William and Kathleen Barlow of Schaumburg, was named to the springȯˆ¿Ã‚ˆ½ 2007 Dean's List at Bowling Green (Ohio) State University for achieving a grade point averages of 3.5 or better. Barlow was a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences during spring semester.

• The University of Iowa awarded bachelor's degrees to the following students at the 2007 summer commencement ceremonies in Iowa City.

Schaumburg: John M. Donlon, social work; Grant Robert Johnson, communication studies; and David Michael Wisniewski, leisure studies.

• Catherine Stephen of Hoffman Estates completed her bachelor's degree in political science from Valparaiso University in August 2007.

• Justin Uy, son of Alex and Evelyn Uy of Hoffman Estates, was named to the 2006-07 dean's list for the winter semester at The University of Dayton in Ohio for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
