Briefs: Dist. 204 meets tonight

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 will hold a special meeting at 6 tonight at the Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. While there is little on the public portion of the agenda, there is a possibility, according to board President Mark Metzger, that the district will be able to release environmental reports concerning the land off Eola Road near Aurora where it plans to build Metea Valley High School. Critics have said the site presents several hazards while the district has maintained it is safe for students.

Chicken pox at area school

Spring Brook Elementary School in Naperville has experienced several recent cases of chicken pox, according to an e-mail sent to parents Wednesday from nurse Lauren Donlan. She said early symptoms include headache, slight fever and malaise followed by a blotchy rash that forms small blisters and eventually scabs. Children should be kept isolated for at least six days after eruptions appear or until the blisters are crusted and dry. Parents are asked to report cases of chicken pox to the school's health office. Donlan can be reached at (630) 428-6621.

Borer prompts law change

Lombard has revised some local tree and shrub regulations to detect and monitor the possible spread of the emerald ash borer. The borer hasn't been found in the village, but it has been discovered in nearby Glendale Heights. Lombard is keeping tabs because there are more than 3,000 ash trees standing in parkways throughout the village and an undetermined number on private property. It is unlawful to remove or cut down any tree on private property without first filing an application and procuring a permit from the Lombard public works department. Free permits issued shall remain in effect for six months and are only valid for the tree or trees specified at the time of approval. For details, call (630) 620-5740 or visit www.villageoflombard.org.
