Briefs: Shooting inquiry continues
The Illinois State Police said Tuesday they are continuing to investigate the death of a 44-year-old man who was shot and killed by a Rolling Meadows police officer on Saturday. Police said the dead man, Michael Chybicki, was intoxicated and threatening an officer with knives about 9 p.m. Saturday on the 4800 block of Weber Drive. Rolling Meadows police have not commented further. Chybicki, whose last known address was Lake in the Hills, was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Luis Gutierrez, an Illinois State Police public information officer, said he did not know when the investigation would be finished and the report released.
Elk Grove warns of burglar
Elk Grove Village police are warning residents to be on the lookout for two people who have been involved in four daytime residential burglaries. The suspect is described as a 17- to 18-year-old man with brown hair and thin build, who was accompanied by a female with dark black hair and glasses. They were driving a gold Taurus station wagon. Entry in the burglaries was through basement or lower-level windows. Anyone observing suspicious activity is asked to call 911. Residents are reminded to lock doors, windows and cars. Anyone with information about the burglaries should call (847) 357-4100 and ask for a criminal investigator.
Marco joins police force
The new Arlington Heights police dog, Marco, will get his bullet- and stab-resistant vest in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on the main stage at Chicagoland Pet Expo at Arlington Park racetrack. Marco, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, and his officer partner, James McGrath, graduated from police dog training school Friday. The Academy of Dog Grooming Arts will present the vest, made possible by students who donate to no-kill animal shelters and Illinois Vest-a-Dog. To date, 263 police dogs have been vested. Marco is the second canine to join the Arlington Heights Police Department since the retirement of Sarge in 1980. Layka joined in 2007 and was also vested by the Academy of Dog Grooming Arts.
