Cubs, Sox not forgotten in the 'burbs
Just because we live in the suburbs doesn't mean we can't indulge in Chicago baseball. Here's how suburbia gets its fix:
Suburban anthem
Jacky Dustin, singer for Mount Prospect Americana band The August sings the National Anthem at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday at Wrigley Field when the Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers. Cheer her on before you cheer on the team.
Cubby Bear Sox
Lincolnshire's Cubby Bear location pays homage to both teams on 74 TVs and HD projectors throughout the bar. Look forward to Miller Lite and MGD specials, 30-cent wings and free eats for the kiddies. Big fun surely awaits.
21661 N. Milwaukee, Lincolnshire, (847) 541-4700.
Free peanuts!
Durty Nellie's celebrates the Cubs home opener on Monday with true baseball pizzazz: $1 hot dogs, $12.99 buckets of beer and free peanuts. Check out the game at Nellie's 16-by-9-foot projection screen, and don't forget to stop back when the Sox celebrate their own home opener against Minnesota April 7.
180 N. Smith St., Palatine, (847) 358-9150.
Cubs-mobile
Need a ride to the game? Shoeless Joe's Sports Bar commandeered a bus to Wrigley on Thursday for another Cubs/Milwaukee matchup. Your $50 buys you tickets to the game, the bus ride there and back, as well as lunch (and beer!) on the bus. Stop by Shoeless Joe's soon to buy tickets. The bus leaves at noon Thursday.
10290 W. Higgins Road, Rosemont, (847) 296-5760.
Harry Caray
Let's not forget that Harry Caray called games for the White Sox for a good many years before heading north. Though Harry's Bar at Harry Caray's Lombard location is known as suburbia's "Official Home Plate of the Chicago Cubs," the Sox are not forgotten. Celebrate the April 7 home opener with $6 Ciroc martinis (fancy) and food specials galore, including a Sliders Trio and meatball sub.
70 Yorktown Center, Lombard, (630) 953-3400.
