The state's best water

Pingree Grove's water system has received the state's 2007 fluoridation award for maintaining proper fluoride levels in its water the entire year. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health jointly issue the award to various towns. Last year, Pingree Grove received an honorable mention.

Gambling screening

In recognition of National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, which runs through Saturday, the Renz Addiction Counseling Center will offer free gambling screenings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at its headquarters at Two American Way, Elgin. Hearing eyes Rakow work

The McHenry County Division of Transportation will hold a public hearing on a proposal to improve Rakow Road from Ackman Road to Route 31. The hearing runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crystal Lake South High School. Call (815) 334-4980.
