You too can go green
The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center is encouraging residents to take steps to promote a healthier environment during National Public Health Week, April 7-13. Here are some tips to make an impact on your surroundings. Be prepared: Learn about climate change in your community; spread the word and strengthen community involvement. Travel differently: Give your car a break and walk, bike, use public transportation or carpool. Eat differently: Buy sustainable foods; check food labels and utilize locally sourced foods. Go green at work and home: Save energy; go digital; use green office materials and telecommute if you can. Reduce, reuse and recycle; heat and cool smartly; seal and insulate your home; use water efficiently and use green power whenever possible. For more, visit www.nphw.org.
Rush back Camp Courage
The Chicago Rush and Deb Hohensee, wife of head coach Mike Hohensee, will help raise awareness and funds for Camp Courage, a camp for children living with grief, at tonight's game at the Allstate Arena. The day camp, which targets children who have lost a family member or friend, is run by the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois and held each summer at Camp Duncan in Ingleside. The cost for the camp is $75 per child, but the Hohensee family's goal is to raise enough money this spring so no child will have to pay to attend the camp this summer. For details, call the Center for Loss and Hope at (847) 381-5599, ext. 250, or you can visit www.hospiceanswers.org
