Briefs: Man airlifted from crash

A Crystal Lake man was flown by helicopter to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge to be treated for injuries he suffered in a Barrington Hills car crash Thursday. The 52-year-old man, who was driving a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix, was heading east on Route 62, just west of Bateman Road, when police said he crossed the center line and struck the rear axle of a 2000 International semitrailer truck heading west. Police said the driver of the truck, a 34-year-old from Chicago, was treated for his injuries at the scene. Officials at Lutheran General Hospital would not release a condition update on the airlifted driver. Route 62 was closed for a portion of the day Thursday while the damage was removed. No citations had been issued, but police said the crash remains under investigation

Gurnee housing down

Gurnee is at all-time low in terms of residential permits. So far this year, the village has issued two permits for single-family homes, compared with seven last year and no multifamily permits, compared with four last year, Village Administrator James Hayner said Thursday during a chamber of commerce luncheon. "Last year was the slowest year in the last 26 years," he said. "This is a reflection of the national economy. We're going through the same thing." Commercial activity was doing well, however, he said. Several small businesses are opening, the Sam's Club will be remodeled and the Direct Buy store will be expanding, he said.

Input sessions scheduled

The village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Park District will be holding two public input sessions on the proposed bike and pedestrian trail system on March 29 and 30 at the Lindenhurst-Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce Family Expo at Lakes Community High School. A third public input session is scheduled during the village's Earth Day celebration April 19.
