Absence of SIU-Carbondale's chancellor draws concerns
CARBONDALE -- A member of Southern Illinois University's faculty senate worries the appearance of instability in the top post of the Carbondale school could have lingering fallout.
SIU President Glenn Poshard announced Monday that he's placed chancellor Fernando Trevino on paid administrative leave, just nine months after Trevino took the helm.
Poshard told James Allen and the rest of the school's faculty senate Tuesday that Trevino hasn't worked out and that Trevino hasn't carried out basic initiatives required of his job.
Allen worries the move against Trevino may harm the school's student recruitment and retention.
An attorney for Trevino says the chancellor will respond within the next couple of weeks to a list of concerns prepared by Poshard about Trevino's performance.
