The GOP's 'best' has created a mess
In Marc Thompson's recent letter, he mockingly referred to Al Gore as "the best the Democrats could come up with" in 2000. Let's look at the facts.
In 2000, more Americans voted for Gore than for the best the GOP could come up with.
Let's look at what George Bush has done since being given the presidency with the help of his daddy's appointees to the Supreme Court:
1. By launching the invasion of Iraq, he reduced the pressure on our real enemy -- al Qaida and Osama Bin Laden -- inflicted more damage on the U.S. economy and military than the terrorists ever could and destroyed America's leadership in the world.
2. He is nearing Ronald Reagan's record for borrowing more money than any previous U.S. president (and Reagan borrowed more than all previous presidents combined). There is no end in sight for these deficits, even as we should be building surpluses in preparation for the waves of baby boomer retirements.
3. He has presided over the decline in our economic position, which is now so weak we are borrowing another $150 billion from China so that Americans can go out and buy more foreign-made products to stimulate the U.S. economy. Go figure.
I just feel sorry for the poor Democrat who is going to get the job of cleaning up the mess the best the GOP could come up with has managed to create in these eight years.
