Torture will come back to haunt us

Who are these men? Who are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Michael Mukasey, other than the president of the United States, his vice president and his attorney general?

And why are they conjuring up such an ancient evil as torture that has plagued man for centuries? Why do they have such vindictiveness toward the enemy who, sooner or later, will eventually return their invective on us twofold, perhaps even more?

Why have these leaders, among many of their persuasion, disregarded the advice of those who have proven that almost all information gathered in such interrogations has been false or ambiguous?

Cruel inquisitions may not return to us in the form of military strength or overt overpowering numbers, but in more insidious ways that can undermine the moral resolve that once formed a great nation--principles and standards that once made us leaders of the world.

Their acidic actions will eat at us for generations, maybe for centuries, after we have disappeared from history and its chronicles of civilized countries. Writings will show that we strayed from the right and sank into the inevitable quicksand of insignificance.

And why are we allowing this to continue? Have we become so blinded by partisanship that we give our blessing to the political party in power to do anything with impunity as long as they declare that it's in the best interest of national security?

These men must be stopped. Their power must be ended. There's too much at risk for our children's sake and for ours!
