Heartland Voices to present '3 Cool Dudes'

Heartland Voices will present 3 Cool Dudes: Music of Bach, Handel and Mozart at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave. Elgin and also at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 822 South Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.

The performance begins with Johann Sebastian Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto Number 4," featuring the Metropolis Chamber Orchestra and conducted by Dr. John G. Slawson, and continues with his "Cantata Number 4: Christ lag in Todesbanden" with soprano Cami Gerwen, mezzo-soprano Amy Allen, alto Marcy Gloede, tenor Stephen Hommowun and baritone George F. Levar.

The second half features assistant conductor Dr. Marc Alan Brunelle directing George Frideric Handel's "Coronation Anthem Number 1: Zadok the Priest," followed by Dr. Brunelle conducting the orchestra in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's lovely and unforgettable "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik."

The evening concludes with Dr. Slawson conducting Mozart's "Solemn Vespers: Vesperae Solennes de Confessore" with soprano Cami Gerwen, mezzo-soprano Patricia Buerger, tenor Stephen Hommowun and bass David Anderson.

Heartland Voices consists of professional and professionally trained singers from the greater Chicago area committed to excellence in choral performance. They are led by Dr. John G. Slawson, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Elgin Community College, accompanied by Dr. Paul J. Satre, Professor of Music at the School of Music at Trinity International University, Deerfield, and principal organist at the Moody Church of Chicago and Dr. Marc Alan Brunelle, Minister of Music at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, Schaumburg, as assistant conductor.

Tickets for this special event are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and groups of six or more and $10 for students with a valid school ID and can be purchased by calling Heartland Voices at (847) 429-9486 or visiting the Web site www.heartlandvoices. org.
