Bloomington cops injured in brawl at Elks Lodge

BLOOMINGTON -- Bloomington police say two officers were injured when they encountered a brawl after being called on a complaint to an Elks lodge.

Several arrests were made in the incident early Sunday morning.

Bloomington Police Sergeant Don Newton said the brawl involved dozens of people and the crowd threw bottles at the officers and threatened them.

Newton said the officers received help from Normal Police, Illinois State University Police, the McLean County Sheriff's department and Illinois State Police.

Lodge manager Marie Cunningham said the facility had been rented for a private party, and the altercation broke out when she asked the disc jockey to stop playing music at 1 a.m.
