Battle brewing over farmer's market
We wouldn't call it bickering, but some Bartlett trustees are definitely concerned about the ideal location for the town's farmers market.
An informal survey last summer showed both the vendors and shoppers prefer that the farmer's market remain at the Jensen Pavilion parking lot on Stearns Road near South Bartlett Road.
But trustees Matt Airdo and T.L. Arends said they thought the intention was to eventually move the popular weekly event to Town Center. After all, doesn't Bartlett need that "visibility and synergy" for its downtown?
Village administrators say there's not enough parking for all the vendors. Plus, the park district and library give the current location significantly more traffic.
It's another strike for Town Center, which officials acknowledge is struggling to attract patrons.
The question of where to showcase all the home-grown produce, baked goods, flowers and other goodies hasn't been answered just yet. It'll be a hot topic at future board meetings.
More care in parking: Work has indeed begun on the expansion of the Poplar Creek Public Library at 1405 S. Park Ave. in Streamwood, but visitors have been slow to make the proper adjustments.
Patrons accustomed to parking in the now-fenced-off rear parking lot should park in the overflow lot across the street.
What's been happening, however, is that drivers surprised by the change have been parking on the residential streets, going as far as blocking driveways and otherwise impeding traffic on these streets.
Both village and library officials are asking library visitors to use more care in parking and respect the residential neighborhood around the building.
The library's rear parking lot is now gone for good. Its space will be filled by the $22.7 million expansion that will double the building's size over the next year.
Library materials are still expected to be moved in late May to a temporary facility for the height of the construction work. But that location hasn't yet been finalized.
Stay in the know: There's an informational, easy-to-access resource available to Hanover Park residents who want to know.
Village President Rod Craig keeps an online blog called "From the Desk of Rod Craig" at mayorrodcraig.com.
Craig writes frequent updates. Current topics include the Einstein School's "Celebration of Reading and Writing" event, an update on the proposed wind turbine at Greenbrook Elementary and the political uproar surrounding the board's vote to eliminate the collector job.
