Thanks for series on gambling industry
I applaud the Daily Herald for exposing the gambling industry for what it really is in its recent casino series. This is especially timely since our Illinois legislature is deciding whether to expand gambling as a means to increase the state's revenue. My question has always been, "Do the ends justify the means?" Now that gambling is legal, are the problems associated with it going to go away? As the Herald pointed out, communities are having to cope with "problem gamblers" with virtually no support from the state ("five one-hundredths of a percent of its total take on support services for them"). It is also unfortunate that those who are opposed to the expansion of gambling are being criticized as not caring for the people of Illinois when in fact they are the ones who care the most.
