Island Lake police chief resigns
Island Lake Police Chief John Fellmann has resigned, officials confirmed Monday.
He's been replaced on an interim basis by Island Lake police Sgt. Anthony Sciarrone.
Fellmann resigned March 14, the day after the village board refused to approve a new contract for him, Trustee Rich Garling said.
Last year, Fellmann was at the center of an Island Lake village board squabble over his position and benefits.
The board declined to renew his contract in January, but Mayor Tom Hyde swiftly named him interim chief. Afterward, the board limited the pay and benefits for interim chiefs.
Neither Fellmann nor Hyde could not be reached for comment Monday.
Fellmann joined the department in 2006. He previously had spent 30 years with the Arlington Heights police department, retiring in 2003 as a commander.
Between 2003 and 2006, he worked with a private security consulting firm.
Village officials will begin seeking a new chief immediately, and are considering two professional search firms for the task, Garling said.
