Trio arrested in string of armed robberies

Three people have been charged in a series of armed robberies in several Lake County communities dating to mid-December.

Waukegan police, in cooperation with police in Gurnee, Round Lake Beach and Zion, announced the arrests Saturday, saying the three were caught in the act of another robbery.

Alonzo Amos, 22, and Ashley Robinson, 21, both of Waukegan, and Jermmie Carlisle, 21, of North Chicago were being held in connection with the incidents, police said.

Waukegan police said they responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Papa John's restaurant 1321 N. Green Bay Road about 10 p.m. Friday. According to a department news release, two men later identified as Amos and Carlisle fled the scene and were apprehended after a short foot chase.

Police said they found Robinson sitting in a vehicle nearby and identified her as the "getaway driver." A BB gun and stun gun were recovered at the scene, and all three were taken into custody.

One officer suffered an undisclosed injury during the incident and was treated at a local hospital and released.

According to police, Amos and Robinson were responsible for robberies at the Arby's in Waukegan on Dec. 13; Game Stop in Waukegan on Jan. 14; Subway in Gurnee on Jan. 23; Burger King in Gurnee on Jan. 31; Radio Shack on Belvidere Road in Waukegan on Feb. 5; Game Stop in Round Lake Beach on March 2; and Wendy's in Zion on March 2.

Carlisle was determined to be connected with the Papa John's, Radio Shack, and Game Stop in Waukegan and Burger King and Subway in Gurnee robberies, according to police.

Items taken during several robberies include several laptop computer, video game systems and games, and several cell phones were found at Amos' home, police said.

Carlisle also was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault for assaults committed during two of the robberies, police said.

The investigation continues and there are other persons of interest, according to police.
