Toews a go to return Sunday

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- All systems appear to be go for Jonathan Toews' return to the lineup Sunday against the Canucks after the Blackhawks took the rookie center off the injured reserve list Friday.

Toews, sidelined since spraining his left knee Jan. 1 at Los Angeles, practiced here Friday and will do so again today at GM Place.

Hawks coach Denis Savard said he would only use Toews on the power play and penalty-killing units, although there's a good chance Toews will see at least a handful of regular shifts as well.

"If there's no penalties, I'll have to use him once in awhile to keep him loose," Savard said. "I'll use him on the fourth line. He'll be a pretty good fourth-line centerman."

Toews has taken a cautious approach to his rehab but feels he is ready to roll.

"Anybody will have that tendency to want to come back and play, but it takes a lot of discipline to wait it out and go about this the right way," Toews said. "That's what I'm trying to do."

Despite missing the last six weeks, Toews' 15 goals still puts him third on the team behind Patrick Sharp (25) and Robert Lang (17).

Eager sidelined: Winger Ben Eager was sent back to Chicago on Friday for further tests related to his concussion.

Eager complained of dizziness after Thursday's morning skate in Calgary. He has missed 17 of the last 19 games with a concussion Hawks general manager Dale Tallon believes Eager suffered while with Philadelphia fighting Pittsburgh's Gary Roberts.

Tip-ins: Defense partners Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook were each plus-2 with a combined 6 shots and 5 blocked shots in the win at Calgary. … Keith scored the Hawks' first goal, his seventh of the season. … Robert Lang was plus-3.
