Nominate a senior for council's Hall of Fame

The Barrington Area Council on Aging is now accepting nominations for its 13th annual Barrington Area Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame honors outstanding seniors from the Barrington area for their service to enhance the quality of life in the community. Local service organizations are being encouraged to nominate a deserving senior.

Nominees will be honored at a recognition tea May 21 at Lake Barrington Woods.

To be considered, the senior must have celebrated his or her 60th birthday by Dec. 31, 2007. In addition, selections should take into consideration the senior's contribution and active participation in the organization, outstanding service to the community, the years and nature of service in a specific area and other past recognition or achievements.

Nomination forms should be returned to the BACOA office, 6000 Garlands Lane, Suite 100, Barrington, by March 17.

Footloose: There will be a lot of dancing going on at Barrington High School this weekend.

The Barrington High School Orchesis is hosting its annual "An Invitation to the Dance" at 4 p.m. Saturday in the school's Richard C. Johnson Auditorium.

The event will feature collaborative dance performances from Barrington students, along with teens from Chicago Academy for the Arts, Highland Park, Naperville Central, Oak Park-River Forest, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and the Franklin Avenue Dance Project.

Each school is allowed to bring up to two dances to be showcased in the performance.

At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, choreographers and dance educators Ellen Werksman and Julie Salk will host another dance performance.

This event will feature performances by dancers from Barrington's Midwest Dance Collective and the high school's orchesis.

Werksman is the artistic director of the Midwest Dance Collective, and Salk is the chair of Barrington High School's fine arts department.

Daughters pass out awards: The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is holding its annual awards ceremony Sunday.

During the event awards for the group's American History essay contest will be presented and the Good Citizen of the year award will also be handed out.

The Good Citizen is a high school senior who is recognized and rewarded for the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities

The ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy., Barrington. For details, call (847) 658-9527.

Energy discussion: The League of Women Voters of the Barrington Area are holding a public discussion on energy from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 26 at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy.

The meeting will feature a presentation from Mike Perry of Midwest Energy, who will discuss the effects of deregulation on energy prices and the availability of alternative sources of energy

Joseph Schachter of the Environmental Law and Policy Center will also be on hand to discuss the economics of clean energy and the state legislation currently being considered in Springfield.
