Bloomingdale school, park may finally get more parking
Parking relief might be in sight for both Bloomingdale's Westfield Middle School and its Circle Park.
The park district and Bloomingdale District 13 are splitting the cost of a survey to determine the best use of land adjacent to the school. Now, park district land houses an equipment shed the park district plans to tear down later this spring after it builds a new one elsewhere.
District 13 Superintendent Kim Perkins said that as both the school and the park district's pool could use more parking, that's the primary focus of the survey.
It'll also determine ways of altering the traffic configuration at the school to make for a better flow.
The $10,000 study that should be finished in a few months is being paid for equally by the two agencies.
Perkins said the study will also look at ways of adding more driveways or parking in environmental friendly ways. When pavement is put down, storm water issues develop because rain can't be absorbed by the soil underneath.
They instead will look at the feasibility of using pavers, where rain water could drain between them and into the ground.
A roller hockey rink on the property also is being studied, but Perkins said the park district hasn't decided whether that structure will remain.
