Merging schools makes a lot of sense

I would like to commend the Daily Herald for its position on the possible consolidation of elementary School Districts Benjamin 25, West Chicago 33 and Winfield 34, and West Chicago Community High School District 94.

I would strongly agree with the Daily Herald as to the potential financial advantages consolidation could provide. It could be of benefit to the already overburdened taxpayer, and lead to added resources for the classrooms.

It just seems to make common sense that with one administration, there will be a better coordination of educational policy that tends to ensure that all students make their way to high school better equipped to be successful there.

And with a potential savings of resources, it should be easier to provide more for all the students without an added burden on the taxpayer.

Now I know that there may be some resistance at the thought of giving up the separate little "kingdoms" that having separate boards sometimes creates, but I think the benefit for both the students and the taxpayers must come first.

As a resident of both District 25 and District 94, I encourage members of these school boards, and the others, to move forward with this idea.

Lastly, I commend Tony Reyes and the members of the District 94 school board for initiating this idea of consolidation. President Reyes and the other members of this board continue to do great things and they deserve the gratitude of all of those people who live in this district.
