Jailed man denied request to visit dead daughter in funeral home
A McHenry County judge has denied a request by a man behind bars for allegedly violently shaking his daughter to be ushered by jail officials to a funeral home to say goodbye to the girl.
Eighteen-year-old Salvador Avila of Woodstock, made a brief court appearance Friday, when judge Charles Weech denied his request.
Avila's attorney asked that Avila be granted a furlough from jail so he could pay his final respects to the two-month-old girl.
Avila is being held on $500,000 bond. He was charged before the girl died with aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery. Prosecutors say they intend to file more serious charges after the return of autopsy results.
