Look at what Cindy McCain wears, too

I would like to reply to the woman who wrote "Designer dresses during a recession" that appeared in the June 21 Fence Post.

The woman who wrote this letter needs to examine not only what Michelle Obama wears but also what John McCain's wife wears in order to make her point hold any sort of water. The last time I checked, the Republican presidential candidate's wife, Cindy McCain, was worth millions of dollars. I do not expect to see her start buying her clothes at Kohl's or Wal-Mart anytime soon so that she can suffer with those with empty pockets. Who knows how much Cindy McCain's outfits cost and what she has in her closet?

 Certainly if Michelle Obama was seen in an outfit purchased where "hardworking Americans" shop, she would be ridiculed for that.

Last time I checked, Michelle Obama was a hardworking woman who makes her own income and should be free to spend it as she deems fit. Just because Michelle Obama wore a designer dress does not mean that she is an "elitist".

The last time I checked the president was paid a fixed income, which he can spend as he pleases. The Obamas would not be able to waste away our country's money on designer dresses and suits for themselves while our country slumps through a recession.

Comparing Michelle Obama to Marie Antoinette is absurd, especially when Cindy McCain is certainly not the typical American.
