Fox Lake man sentenced to four years for rape of teen
A Fox Lake man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for raping a female acquaintance in her home.
Marcus Villasana, 19, was eligible for up to seven years behind bars after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Bolling Haxall said Villasana, of 122 Eagle Point, was among a group of people at the 16-year-old victim's house May 30.
Haxall said Villasana and the victim wound up alone in the basement of the house, and Villasana pushed her down on a couch.
Despite repeated orders to stop, Haxall said, Villasana forced the victim to have sex with him.
Villasana then left the gathering, and the victim went to the hospital to be examined, Haxall said.
Villasana originally was charged with criminal sexual assault, but Haxall agreed to reduce the charge in exchange for his guilty plea.
Haxall asked for a sentence of seven years in prison, while defense attorney Elliott Pinsel asked Lake County Circuit Judge James Booras for no more than 3½ years.
Booras imposed the same four-year term he told the lawyers he felt was most appropriate during a conference to discuss the proposed plea negotiation.
Booras said he believed prison time was necessary, even though Villasana had no prior criminal record, because he violated the terms of his bail bond several times after he was charged in the case.
