Briefs: New tech boss at Woodland
Woodland Elementary District 50 has landed a new technology director. Dann Giesey, who has more than 20 years of technology experience, is in the post vacated by Rich Pattison before the academic year began. Pattison jumped to Waukegan Unit District 60 to become its executive director in the division of information technology services. Giesey most recently was director of technology at Klein Tools.
Beware in Lincolnshire
Routine maintenance from ComEd is scheduled to knock out traffic signals at the busy intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Knightsbridge Parkway in Lincolnshire from 5 to 5:30 p.m. today. Village officials said the outage also may affect buildings at 300 and 333 Knightsbridge, south of Route 22. Lincolnshire officials said stop signs will be placed at the intersection of Milwaukee and Knightsbridge. Commuters are urged to avoid the area during the evening rush hour today.
Navy promotion announced
Rear Adm. Kevin M. Quinn, a Libertyville native, has started his new job as commander of the Atlantic Naval Surface Forces. Navy officials said Quinn relieved Rear Adm. D.C. Curtis, a Chicago native, at a ceremony last Friday on the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp based from Naval Station Norfolk. Quinn graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1977. He served on three ships before becoming executive officer of the guided missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain. He's also served in several top posts on land, Navy officials said.
District 118 Art A-Fair
Artwork created by students from all grades of Wauconda Unit District 118 is on display in honor of Youth Art Month at the Wauconda Area Public Library. The event runs through March 21. Youth Art Month, sponsored by the Council for Art Education, seeks to develop self-esteem, appreciation of the work of others, self-expression, cooperation with others, and critical thinking skills through art. Roughly 150 pieces of mixed media artwork, including works in pastels, watercolor, oil, clay and metal, are displayed throughout the library, 801 N. Free concert in Barrington
The award-winning Chicago Brass Band will perform alongside the Barrington High School concert and symphonic bands during a concert March 6. The combined eighth-grade bands from Barrington Middle School Prairie and Station campuses will also perform. The Chicago Brass Band will perform selections from its competition music, which will also be performed at the North American Brass Band Championships next month. Admission is free.
