Magic making for kids at Butterfield Parks

Kids can fill their sleeves with even more tricks at Butterfield Park District's Magic Mania.

On Tuesday, kids can learn tricks involving cards, ropes, coins and mind-reading. The class costs $14 for residents and $16 for nonresidents. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and will learn tricks accordingly.

The program is offered in conjunction with Oakbrook Terrace Park District and is held at Butterfield Park District.

The class is offered about four times a year, and new magic is taught at every session.

"It just provides an extra recreational activity that might be a little different for kids," Recreation Program Manager Sara Venuto said.

The classes, taught by the Magic Team of Gary Kantor, have been running for almost two years now.

"I think it's just kind of exciting for kids to be able to see something they wouldn't normally be able to see," Venuto said. "It kind of illuminates their mind."

There's usually no limit as to how many kids can sign up.

"It's just something really different that we can offer," she said, "and any instructor that comes in is generally very good."
