Briefs: Dist. 128's summer school
Libertyville-Vernon Hills High School District 128 will hold its 2008 summer school at Vernon Hills High School. Students from Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools interested in taking classes in summer school should see their counselor. Students planning on taking driver education must sign up with their counselor by March 14. If a student lives in District 128 but does not attend Libertyville or Vernon Hills high schools and would like to take driver education, the student must preregister between Feb. 11 and March 14. Preregistration forms are available at Libertyville High School.
Tax prep at library
Free tax preparation help will be available at the Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich through April 12 for seniors (age 60 years or older); families with incomes of $35,000 or less; and individuals with incomes of $25,000 or less. Patrons must sign up in advance for appointments. Appointments may be made for Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. This service is free of charge, but register in advance by calling (847) 438-3433 or by signing up at the library's information desk. Patrons may also register online at www.eapl.org.
Students compete in slam
Twenty students from Chicago-area high schools will compete in the third annual Fairchild Challenge poetry slam Sunday at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Students have been asked to write and perform a poem on an environmental issue that is a personal priority. Students from Antioch High School are among those competing. The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. in the garden's Burnstein Hall, Regenstein Center.
