Kings stop Wings' streak

The NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings blew a chance to match the longest winning streak in their storied history.

They did it against the lowly Los Angeles Kings, too.

Brad Stuart scored the go-ahead goal at 13:07 of the third period, and Los Angeles rallied from a 2-goal deficit to beat Detroit 5-3 on Thursday night.

The Red Wings had a chance to win their ninth straight game, equaling a franchise record. They seemed to be set up to do it when Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal to put them ahead 3-1 at 13:05 of the second.

But Los Angeles scored on 4 of its first 8 shots in the third against Chris Osgood, who started the game with an NHL-best 1.84 goals-against average.

Osgood finished with 20 saves and matched a season high by allowing 5 goals.

Jason LaBarbera had 26 stops for the Kings, who hadn't won in Detroit since Feb. 18, 2000. Los Angeles entered the game with an NHL-low 47 points.

Senators 5, Panthers 4: Dany Heatley had 2 goals and an assist in his return from a shoulder injury to lead host Ottawa over Florida.

Penguins 4, Islanders 3: Ryan Whitney had 2 goals, Kris Letang scored the game-winner with 3:39 to play, and host Pittsburgh handed New York its sixth straight loss.

Stars 1, Wild 0: Mike Smith stopped 25 shots, and Niklas Hagman scored early in the third period for Dallas in a win over host Minnesota.

Lightning 2, Predators 1 (OT): Vaclav Prospal scored at 58 seconds of overtime to give Tampa Bay a victory over host Nashville.

Ducks 4, Rangers 1: Corey Perry and Chris Kunitz scored 1:27 apart to break open a tight game in the second period, and Anaheim beat host New York.

Canucks 2, Thrashers 1: Alex Burrows' goal midway through the third period completed a third-period rally for Vancouver in a win over host Atlanta.

Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 2: Darcy Tucker scored his second goal of the game into an empty net, and Vesa Toskala made 34 saves as Toronto beat Montreal.
