Wakeup call sent to GOP

On Feb. 5, the voters of DuPage County delivered a wakeup call to the DuPage GOP. I am honored to have been chosen by those same voters to represent the Republican Party on the ballot for county board District 6. I thank each and every one of them for their trust, and I will work hard to earn that trust. I have heard that wakeup call, and I intend to answer it.

The Republican Party has long controlled DuPage County, while the Democratic Party has had a death grip on Cook County. Any fair-minded analysis of the two counties should tell you how much better run DuPage County is than is Cook County. Republican leadership works. Yet, it seems that voters have perceived a certain sense of entitlement on behalf of the GOP that should not be there. Serving in public office is an honor and a privilege that must be earned. It is not a birthright.

I believe that when the dust settles in November DuPage will still be a "Red" county because people know good government when they see it. Between now and then, however, the Republican Party leadership and candidates must come together and work to remind DuPage County voters about what makes Republican leadership great: low taxes, responsible budgets, family values, outstanding public servants and infrastructure, low crime and an absence of the type of corruption that has poisoned Cook County.

The primary is over, but the hard work has just begun. I look forward to it, and I encourage every citizen to get involved. If you don't, you have not earned the right to complain if you see the DuPage County you know and love change to something else...something like Cook County.
