Islanders rally for fourth straight win
Freddy Meyer capped New York's 3-goal, third-period rally with 8:41 left, taking advantage of injured San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov in the host Islanders' 3-2 victory over the Sharks on Monday.
Meyer, who had gone 73 games without a goal before scoring into an empty net at Toronto last Thursday, beat a goalie for the first time since Nov. 24, 2006. He sent a shot in from the right circle and lifted the Islanders to their fourth straight victory.
The Islanders struck against Nabokov, who returned to the game to start the third period after a slap shot by defenseman Radek Martinek broke his mask and cut him on the bridge of the nose.
Devils 5, Hurricanes 1: Travis Zajac had a goal and an assist, leading surging New Jersey past visiting Carolina.
Mike Mottau, Jay Pandolfo, Johnny Oduya and Zach Parise also scored for the Devils while Martin Brodeur made 21 saves.
