CLC 70, Waubonsee CC 50

After the final home game of each women's basketball season, College of Lake County athletic trainer Larry Scire treats the players to a home-cooked Italian dinner.

Prior to eating, the sophomores were presented with flowers and introduced with their parents.

Adding to the party atmosphere?

For the previous two hours, the Lancers rained 3-pointers against Waubonsee Community College.

CLC made a season-high 12 3-pointers in a 79-50 dismantling of the Chiefs.

CLC closes out the Skyway Conference season at Prairie State on Saturday. Going into Thursday, the Lancers trailed only Moraine Valley in the league standings. This was the 20th victory of the season for CLC (20-6).

"They were giving us the 3-pointer, and we moved the ball exceptionally well tonight," coach Bill Braman said.

The game started with sophomore Kelli Goodwin (Libertyville) hitting two quick 3-pointers. Then, sophomore Alyssa Wilson (Vernon Hills) got into the act.

Wilson hit five 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points. Goodwin made a trio of 3-pointers. Six players converted at least one 3.

"We were passing the ball and we wanted everyone to score," Wilson said. "That made the game more fun and we play best that way."

Wilson, sophomore Tiffany Lehner (14 points), freshman Ye-Eun Jin (14 points), freshman Lauren Liles (12 points) and Goodwin (11 points) all reached double figures.

Waubonsee sophomore Starlina Robinson scored a game-high 25 points.

CLC looked to push the tempo at every opportunity.

"It's really (nice) when we can run on teams," Liles said.

The only way the Lancers would have been happier is if they had held on against Moraine Valley on Tuesday. CLC led by 10 points at one point in the second half before falling 47-42. Moraine Valley won the first meeting between the two teams 68-55 on Jan. 24.

"We played well for 35 minutes, but you need to play well for 40 minutes to win those types of games," Braman said.

Wilson said the Lancers knew the game was eminently winnable.

"There was no reason they should beat us twice," Wilson said. "It was disappointing, but we can still go far in the playoffs when we play the right way."
