Lalime's got the job
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Blackhawks coach Denis Savard claimed after Saturday's victory over the Coyotes that he would evaluate his goaltending situation for Tuesday's game at San Jose.
That's a good one. Like there's a chance Savard won't come right back with Patrick Lalime against the Sharks.
Lalime has been the reason why the Hawks have won their last four games, three of them in shootouts.
"Right now Patty is seeing the puck very well," Savard said. "I can see that even from the bench when shooters are coming down on him. He's big in goal."
Lalime has stopped 7 of 9 shots in the three shootouts the Hawks have won.
"You just try to be patient and wait for a move and take it from there," Lalime said.
The play of Lalime in goal has been giving the Hawks more confidence.
"Patty has been standing on his head," teammate Brent Seabrook said.
Lalime made 38 saves in regulation and overtime against the Coyotes.
"Sometimes you run into good goaltending. You have to give Lalime credit," Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski said.
Power failure: The power play still has more bad nights than good ones, although Denis Savard liked what he saw Saturday against the Coyotes when the Hawks went 1-for-5.
"That was our best sequence in awhile," he said.
Brent Seabrook got the goal in the second period set up nicely by Patrick Kane.
"That goal was huge for our power play," Seabrook said. "I think we've been struggling lately. Kane made such a great pass, but it was the whole play."
Tip-ins: Denis Savard went back to James Wisniewski on defense for most of the last two periods and overtime against the Coyotes, sitting Jordan Hendry. … Wisniewski played wing at Colorado in his first game off the injured list (sprained knee), and was at wing for the first period against the Coyotes. …
The Hawks blocked 14 shots against the Coyotes led by Brent Sopel's 5. … Martin Lapointe should be available to play Tuesday at San Jose after missing three games with the flu. Lapointe also has been bothered by kidney soreness but had been playing through it.
