Briefs: Long Grove bank robbed
A Long Grove bank was held up Monday around 4 p.m., authorities confirmed. The robbery took place at the National City Bank branch at 3980 Route 22 near Old McHenry Road. There were no reports of injuries. FBI agents were on the scene Monday night, but FBI spokeswoman Kelly Brennan said no details were being released. Lake County sheriff's police referred all questions to the FBI.
Fox Lake screening
The Lake Forest Care Coach will be at the Fox Lake Lakefront Park building from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 to conduct free health-care screenings. The park building is at 71 Nippersink Road. Promotion at county jail
Lt. Anthony Ward was promoted to deputy chief of the correctional division at the Lake County jail, Sheriff Mark Curran announced. Ward will serve under Curran and Chief of Corrections Jennifer Witherspoon. Ward began his career with the sheriff's office in 1982 and was promoted to the corporal in 1985, sergeant in 1987 and lieutenant in 1992. He was appointed director of the work release program in 1999 and has been the ranking command officer on the afternoon shift for the past 15 years. He is also a graduate of the National Institute of Corrections for jail officers. Curran said the move was a right one for the agency.
Diversity discussion
Gurnee's advisory diversity committee is scheduled to gather at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at village hall, 325 O'Plaine Road. Committee members are expected to discuss forming an action plan that would be used to help attract more minorities to village government jobs. Mayor Kristina Kovarik formed the diversity committee in 2005. The committee's basic purpose is to address overall diversity in the village work force. Thursday night's meeting is open to the public.
