Kaneland students honored
Three students have been recognized by Kaneland High School for their volunteer work. The school has announced its first round of honorees in the GIVE (Generosity Involves Volunteer Effort) program. This school year, Gregory Sutherland has volunteered for 80 hours, and Teodor Paraskevov and Jacqueline Smith have volunteered for 40 hours.
St. Pat's parade planned
The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown St. Charles is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 8. Parade entries will be accepted until Feb. 15. There are 90 spots available. Volunteers also are needed. This year's parade is sponsored by McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, the city of St. Charles and the Jaycees. Forms are online at www.stcharleschamber.com. Teen job fair returns
The St. Charles Park District's annual teen job fair is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18, at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. There is no charge for businesses or college and high school students interested in participating. Call (630) 513-4331.
Tax applications available
Real estate tax deferral applications are available through the Kane County treasurer's office. This is the 24th year of the program that permits qualified senior citizens to defer all or a portion of their real estate taxes. Once completed these forms should be returned to the treasurer's office on or before March 1. To qualify, a senior citizen mustbe 65 or older by June 1, 2008; have a total household income of $50,000 or less; have lived on the property for at least three years; not owe any delinquent property taxes; and have proof of homeowners insurance. Forms may be picked up at the treasurer's office located at 719 Batavia Ave., Building (A), in Geneva or they may be obtained by mail. Call Della Winckler at the treasurer's office at (630) 232-3565.
Soil and Water meeting
Join the Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District for its annual meeting Feb. 21 at Fishermen's Inn in Elburn. The evening includes a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet-style dinner at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., speaker Donald Roseboom will talk about stream bank stabilization for better farms and better water.
