Fumes spark fire at St. Andrew's
Fumes from a solvent ignited Saturday afternoon in the kitchen of St. Andrew's Golf and Country Club in West Chicago, causing a fire that damaged kitchen equipment and the clubhouse building.
One worker suffered minor injuries, but was not hospitalized.
The flammable solvent was being used to remove floor tile. The fumes found an ignition source, possibly on a grill, according to a West Chicago deputy chief. The fire extended into the ceiling.
About a half-dozen people were working there at the time. The clubhouse, at 3N441 Route 59, was closed to business at the time.
A damage estimate was not available as of Saturday evening.
