Fox Lake to hire manager

After bouncing the idea around for more than five years, Fox Lake officials are expected to approve the hiring of a village administrator during their biweekly board meeting tonight. This will be the second village administrator officials hired in the 100-year history of Fox Lake. The first administrator, Tim Wells, resigned from the position in 2002 after being indicted by the Lake County state's attorney's office on misconduct charges for incidents that took place when he served as village manager in Antioch. The board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the village hall, 66 Thillen Drive. For more information, contact the village at (847) 587-2151 or check out the village's Web site at www.foxlake.org.

Edens advance work:

Daytime lane closures on Forest Glen and Cicero avenues and Golf Road, which pass under the Edens Expressway, will begin Wednesday. Protective shielding will be installed under the bridges for worker safety in advance of the second phase of the Edens rehabilitation project, which starts in April. That involves patching and resurfacing all lanes of the 14-mile expressway from Lawrence Avenue to Lake-Cook Road. That work will require the closure of one of three lanes in each direction from the beginning of April until late summer.

Barrington jazz festival:

The Barrington High School fine arts department will present its Winter Jazz Festival at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the school's Richard C. Johnson Auditorium, 616 W. Main St. The concert will feature the Barrington High jazz ensemble and Rithum Machine jazz band. Jazz bands from Barrington Middle School Prairie and Station campuses will also perform. The school is also collecting used band instruments and used prom dresses. The items will be given to band programs and schools in the New Orleans area that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call (847) 842-3250.

Barrington business closes

Cook St. because of health problems. Everything in the store is 70 percent off through Jan. 31, the targeted closing date. For information, call (847) 381-5020.
