Man robbed at gunpoint while parking car
Schaumburg police were searching Friday for two men authorities say robbed another man at gunpoint while he was parking his car.
In a separate incident in Bartlett, a teen was arrested in a case where a cabdriver was robbed at gunpoint.
According to Schaumburg police reports, the victim was backing into a space in a parking lot on the 100 block of East Beech Street at about 2:10 a.m. Friday when two men, dressed in all black and wearing ski masks, ran up to his car.
One of them came to the driver's side, pointed a black handgun at the driver, opened the door and said, "Give me what you have," police said.
The victim handed over his wallet and cell phone while the other man opened the passenger's-side door and grabbed a bag of miscellaneous personal papers and bills.
After the men ran off, police said the victim waited several minutes before going into his apartment and calling for help.
A K-9 officer was called to the scene, but police said it was not able to pick up a scent.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Schaumburg Police Department at (847) 882-3534.
In Bartlett, police arrested an 18-year-old they said called for a cab ride and then robbed the cabdriver at gunpoint.
Police said Julius Edmond, 18, of 167 Peter Court, pointed a silver-plated handgun at a taxi driver and took about $100 from him before fleeing the scene Tuesday.
Authorities said they found Edmond crouching behind a trash container near Daniel Court and North Avenue. He was charged with felony armed robbery, authorities said.
Bond for Edmond was set at $200,000 Friday. If convicted, he could face 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Edmond waived his Miranda rights and confessed.
Prosecutors said a second man was also present during the alleged Bartlett robbery but that he hasn't been caught. They said the second man apparently didn't wield a gun but snatched the cabdriver's keys from his cab.
Edmond is due back in court Feb. 15.
