3 hurt in collision on Route 56 in Sugar Grove

A car driving the wrong way on Route 56 in Sugar Grove collided with two other vehicles Friday night, police said.

Three people were hurt in the crash, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m. just west of Golfview Road.

The accident was caused by a driver headed east in the westbound lanes of Route 56, police said. Authorities didn't immediately know why the driver was going the wrong way.

Two of the crash victims were taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. A third person was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.

The westbound lanes of Route 56 were shut down for more than two hours after the crash. Motorists were directed to drive through the nearby Pressbury subdivision.

Firefighters from Sugar Grove, Elburn and Big Rock responded to the crash.

No other details were available Friday night. Police expected to release more information about the accident today.
