Guilty plea in parks theft
A former Buffalo Grove Park District staff member admitted Tuesday to stealing thousands of dollars from her employer. Kathleen Poynor, 43, of the 300 block of Main Street in Wauconda, pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft. She was sentenced to one year of probation and she handed over a cashier's check for $33,000 to representatives of the park district, who also were in court, prosecutors said. That covered the amount she had to pay in restitution. Poynor had worked in the park system's finance department. The district dismissed her in mid-June after officials there suspected theft. Police found she'd altered various deposits and issued duplicate checks to herself, according to police reports.
