West Chicago celebrates World Heart Day

West Chicago and Healthy West Chicago will partner with the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention to provide residents with a way to celebrate their achievement in the Move with the Mayor Challenge, as well as continue to bring awareness for the benefits of walking.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Sept. 29, on World Heart Day, in the gymnasium of Gary Elementary School, 130 East Forest Ave.

Entertainment, food, raffles and awards will be included, thanks to sponsors and donors. Food and beverages will be provided by The Kitchen Table, Augustino's, Kindred Coffee and Tampico.

Twelve bicycles, with locks and helmets, will be raffled thanks to St. Charles Walmart, WeGo Together, and Healthy West Chicago.

Entertainment will be provided by Ballet Folklorico, and Ozzie, the Kane County Cougars mascot, will be on hand. The top 10 walkers will be announced, with the top one receiving a $25 gift card to Kindred Coffee.

The winner of the photo contest, sponsored by the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, will receive a $100 gift card. Details of the photo contest may be found at www.westchicago.org.
