Sabres drop 10th straight

Petr Prucha and Brandon Dubinsky each had a goal and an assist to lift the host New York Rangers to a 2-1 victory Wednesday night that stretched the Buffalo Sabres' losing streak to 10 games.

Buffalo snapped its run of 3 straight shootout losses but still couldn't find a way to win. The Sabres haven't come out on top since a 6-5 shootout victory at Philadelphia on Dec. 22 (0-5-5).

The Rangers shook off Monday's poor 4-1 loss at Pittsburgh and earned their second consecutive win at home. Still, New York is on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff race having won twice in eight games (2-5-1).

Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for his 20th win of the season, doing it against the Sabres, who knocked the Rangers out in the second round of last year's playoffs.

Islanders 3, Devils 1: Rick DiPietro had 37 saves, and Bill Guerin scored 2 goals to lead New York over host New Jersey, the Islanders' fifth win in as many games this season against the Devils.

Mike Sillinger also scored for New York, which has won four of the five meetings in regulation. Travis Zajak scored for New Jersey, which had a three-game winning streak snapped in losing for only the seventh time in 26 games (19-5-1).

Flyers 5, Panthers 3: Daniel Briere scored twice, and Kimmo Timonen had a goal and 2 assists as host Philadelphia held off Florida, denying Panthers coach Jacques Martin his 500th win.

Simon Gagne and Scott Hartnell also scored for the Flyers, who took a 4-1 lead in the first period. Philadelphia has won two straight and five of its last six.

Martin is trying to become the 10th coach in NHL history to win 500 games.

Flames 3, Wild 2 (SO): Jarome Iginla shrugged off a slow night to score the winning goal in the shootout, lifting Calgary over host Minnesota. Iginla entered with 41 points in 38 career games against Minnesota, and his 24 goals against the Wild are 10 more than the next-closest opponent.
