Cary parks to hold kite flying event to promote special license plate sales

Keep your eyes to the skies on Saturday. The Cary Park District is holding a family-oriented kite fly as part of the Illinois Association of Park Districts' statewide "Flying 4 Kids" months during April and May.

The goal of "Flying for Kids" is to raise awareness of the Park District Youth License Plate, which features a colorful kite. $25 from the sale and subsequent renewals of each plate is placed into the IAPD Power Play Grant Program, a special grant fund to benefit beyond-school programming for youth at park districts and recreation agencies throughout Illinois.

The Cary Park District's kite fly will include a kite fly competition that includes biggest kite, smallest kite and highest flying kite among the categories. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kites and kite craft kits will be available for purchase at the event.

The kite fly will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Lions Park on Silver Lake Road off Three Oaks Road.

Registration for the competition is required. Register at the Cary Park District, 255 Briargate Road, Cary.

The event is free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
