Briefs: Last candidates forum

The Elgin Area League of Women Voters will hold a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. This is one of the final opportunities to hear the candidates for the 14th Congressional District before the Feb. 5 primary. Both the Democratic and Republican candidates have been invited to participate in this forum that will use a moderated format. The two Republican candidates vying for the 16th Circuit Judge position will introduce themselves to the audience in the first 15 minutes of the forum. Call Janet Poyner at (847) 695-7122.

The East Dundee Special Events Committee invites residents and business owners to attends its meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Village Hall Annex. Many exciting events are shaping up for this year including Lunch in the Park, Movie Night and the Art and Wine Festival. The committee also is looking for volunteers. Call (847) 426-2822.

Camera club for local teens

The Huntley Area Public Library is starting a camera club for Huntley area teens. The first meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 21 in the youth services office. Bring your camera and work samples. Police group picks officers

The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association installed new officers Jan. 17. They are Cmdr. Joe G. Frega, Geneva Police Department, as president; Chief James Lamkin, St. Charles Police Department, vice president; Chief Greg Anderson, Campton Hills Police Department, secretary; Chief Edward Dennis (Ret.), West Dundee Police Department, treasurer; Deputy Chief Robert Beeter, Elgin Police Department, sergeant at arms.

Charges sought for teen

Streamwood police are seeking a juvenile charge of unlawful use of a weapon against a 15-year-old Streamwood High School student who displayed an unloaded pellet gun to classmates Friday morning. Police are sending paperwork to the juvenile division of the state's attorney's office where the final determination of charges will be made, Streamwood Deputy Police Chief Jim Gremo said. Elgin Area Unit District 46 has also suspended the Streamwood resident from school. Most suspensions last 10 days, district officials said.
