All-Stars set to skate at West Meadows
To watch the best players in area high school hockey, West Meadows Ice Arena is the place to be Sunday.
That's when the Metro League All-Star Games are scheduled.
The top players from the West will play the Central stars at 10:30 a.m., followed by the North against the Northwest at 2:30 p.m.
At 4:30 p.m., a special game will feature a team of Blackhawks alumni players meeting the Hornets sled hockey squad.
The Hornets, who have never lost in their four-year history, are comprised of about 24 disabled hockey players ages 5-20. The team plays on sleds which are equipped with two 3-foot hockey sticks that include picks on the ends to permit movement.
The Hornets' opponents also play on sleds featuring the same equipment.
Since there aren't any other sled hockey teams in the area, the Hornets usually play against local peewee or volunteer teams.
