Briefs: Fire strikes Carpentersville home
Carpentersville fire officials responded to a house fire just before 2:30 p.m. Friday on the 300 block of Delaware Court after a neighbor reported smoke billowing from the windows. Fire Lt. James Ohlinger said the blaze was under control within 20 minutes of units arriving and was contained to the property's kitchen. No one was at home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Ohlinger said investigators are have yet to determine the cause of the fire or an estimated cost of damages.

From 1864 to 1964, the company was one of the world's foremost watchmakers and one of the chief private employers in the northern Fox Valley. Bartlett band raises funds
In preparation for their Disney World performance on March 26, the Bartlett High School band today will hold a bowling fundraising event. Dundee hosts candidates
The Dundee Township Republican Central Committee will sponsor a forum for candidates running for Congress, Illinois House, Kane County Board chairman and the 16th Judicial District at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the East Dundee village hall annex, 120 Barrington Ave. The public is invited to attend and ask questions and comment. Teens in reading challenge
The Huntley Area Public Library is offering a two-month reading program just for teens. The Let it Snow (Read Cool Stuff) winter reading challenge will end March 9.
