Briefs: Lily Lake forum Saturday
Lily Lake residents can hear details of a proposed 276-acre development along Route 47 and Empire Road during an open house Saturday at the village community center, 43W870 Empire Road. The event starts at 1 p.m. and should conclude about 3 p.m., Village President Jesse Heffernan said. Developers will be on hand to discuss their proposal for 220 houses and commercial space. The project is scheduled for a public hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, after which the village board could vote on it, Heffernan said.
Preschool open house set
Parents interested in enrolling children in the Pottawatomie Preschool program in St. Charles can attend an open house from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The event will include a tour of the preschool wing at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., and teachers also will be on hand to answer questions. Start your own business
Individuals interested in starting their own business are invited to discover what free and low-cost services are available through Elgin Community College, the Small Business Administration and the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity at a free Starting Your Business in Illinois workshop from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at ECC's main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The Downtown St. Charles Partnership will have a workshop for potential volunteers Jan. 26 at city hall, 2 E. Main St. The one-hour session starts at 9 a.m. and is open to local residents, business owners and property owners. The partnership will explain how the nonprofit organization works and outline volunteer opportunities with several annual events, including the Concerts in the Park series and the St. Charles Fine Art Show.
