Winter dinner, auction: The Fox Valley Wildlife Center will hold its sixth annual Winter Dinner/Auction Feb. 9. The event will be at Riverside Reception and Banquets in Geneva. It is the Wildlife Center's primary fundraising event. All proceeds will go toward helping the many injured and orphaned animals that will be brought to the Wildlife Center in 2008. Last year's event raised $12,500 and the center is hoping to raise an additional $4,000 this year to pay for monthly utility bills previously paid by the Kane County Forest Preserve. The Forest Preserve stopped paying the bills Jan. 1.

The FVWC Winter Dinner/Auction features a silent and a live auction, a 50/50 cash raffle, wildlife presentations and dinner. The winners of this year's photo contest will also be announced and contest entries will be on display. The event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. Tables may be reserved for 8-10 people.

Auction items are still being sought for the event in which 200 people are expected to attend. This year's live auction includes a one-week vacation in an alternative energy home in Coral Bay, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. It includes luxury accommodations for up to 10 guests. To donate an item or to purchase tickets for the event, contact the Wildlife Center at (630) 365-3800 or P.O. Box 385, Elburn, IL 60119.

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center, in the Elburn Woods Forest Preserve and partnered with the Kane County Forest Preserve, is a nonprofit volunteer organization. The center is state and federally licensed to care for orphaned and injured wild birds and mammals and is privately funded, supported entirely by membership fees, donations, grants and fundraisers.
